Some Nine Thousand Joint Personnel To Secure AAC: Police

Bandung, W Java, March 30 (Antara) - West Java Police will deploy nearly nine thousand joint personnel to secure the delegates of the 60th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (AAC). "Delegates of the 60th Anniversary of the AAC will be secured intensively. More than nine thousand joint personnel will be deployed," West Java Chief Inspector General Mochamad Iriawan stated here on Monday. He noted that the AAC will be secured with personnel from the military, police, transportation department, and the city's Public Order Agency (Satpol PP). The Asia-Africa Summit meeting will be held on April 22-23, in Jakarta. Leaders from several Asian and African countries will congregate in Bandung, on April 24. "Security preparations have been made, including strategy and on-field coordination. They will be deployed to secure the delegates," he said. According to the police chief, hundreds of leaders and representatives from Asian and African countries along with observers will attend the concluding session in Bandung. "The AAC is an extraordinary event for the Indonesian people," he affirmed. Besides security, West Java police have made necessary arrangements to manage the traffic in a bid to ensure safe and smooth movement of the AAC's participants. He noted that West Java Police will provide maximum security to the delegates. Earlier, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi stated that Indonesia will revive the spirit of cooperation on the 60th anniversary of the AAC to be held in April. "Indonesia will host the 60th anniversary of the AAC in April 2015 and will revive the spirit of the the Asia-Africa cooperation," Retno stated here on Monday. According to Retno, solidarity, partnership, and cooperation are necessary for unifying the world. "Therefore, the spirit of the importance of the Asia-Africa cooperation must be reaffirmed," she emphasized. Indonesia has been making preparations for the 60th anniversary of the AAC, which will be held from April 19 to 24, 2015. In addition, Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil has instructed officials in every agency or working unit to improve infrastructure facilities ahead of the 60th anniversary of the AAC. "Based on the president's mandate, infrastructure facilities must be in place before the conference," Ridwan Kamil said here on Tuesday. Emil remarked that the Bandung administration will not carry out auctions but will directly appoint efficient parties to manage and improve infrastructure. "They must be accompanied by the concerned central government authorities," he affirmed. They will be accompanied by several agencies such as the Development Finance Comptroller, the Government Procurement Regulatory Body, and the Attorney General. Furthermore, Emil noted that the local administration will hold meetings with the relevant parties to improve infrastructure, particularly pedestrian paths and green lanes. "We will soon determine the areas that need attention. We will also cooperate with relevant parties to calculate the budget required to carry out the work," he stated. According to Emil, the areas that require repairs include the Great Mosque, Braga, Asia Afrika Street, East Cikapundung Street, and Naripan Street. "We are aiming to complete all repair work within 45 days," he stated. Kamil urged all district heads to review the progress of work. Cleanliness should also be maintained in every region.
