Songkran celebrants return to Bangkok

BANGKOK, April 17 (TNA) - The state-run Transport Co., Ltd. has added more buses to provide services for passengers, projecting that as many as 180,000 people would return to Bangkok on Sunday after celebrating Songkran festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year. Nopparat Karunyawanich, acting chief of the bus firm said 2,000 more buses have been increased on Sunday. Normally, the company operates about 7,000 buses daily. Meanwhile, a large number of passengers arriving and departing from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport were also seen as airport authorities estimated that more than 130,000 people would use the airport service Sunday. The airport has cooperated with the Land Transport Department and police to allow taxis to pick up passengers while buses were available to transport people to skytrain and underground rail systems every five minutes.
