Songkran Festival ends in Thailand

BANGKOK, April 17 (TNA) - In the aftermath of Songkran festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year, workers have yet to clean the streets that were Songkran venues. A large number of garbage was collected. Meanwhile, owners of car care centres and souvenir shops are happy with soaring incomes. The Songkran festival in the northern Phitsanulok province ended on April 15 but municipal workers have not finished the cleanup of main streets that were water fight venues during the festival. They collected over 100 tonnes of garbage and have yet to remove dirt and white mud stains that tightly coat the roads. Car care centres are packed with vehicles and motorcycles. A car care operator in the northeastern Nakhon Phanom province said incomes doubled for the time being. The business of souvenirs is also booming especially thanks to the increased sales of nonperishable items. The public pawnshop office of Buri Ram municipality reopens after five holidays. Clients flock into the place to pledge their valuables including gold and electrical appliances to raise funds for their household expenses and tickets back to work. (TNA)
