Sons of ex-ministers, detained during corruption scandal in Turkey, released

Details added (first version posted at 16:40) Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 28 By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend: Turkish Prosecutor's Office has made a decision on releasing from prison the businessman Rza Zarrab, and former Interior Minister Muammer Guler's son Baris Guler, who were previously detained during the corruption scandal in this country, TRT Haber TV channel reported on Feb. 28. Aside from them, the former Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan's son Salih Kaan Caglayan and five other persons were released too. Turkish police conducted special operations in Istanbul and Ankara on Dec.17, 2013, resulting in the arrest of several dozen people including businessmen and the sons of some ministers. The detainees were accused of corruption, smuggling and selling drugs. The well-known businessman and head of Istanbul's Fatih municipality Mustafa Demir, Turkish Halk Bank CEO Suleyman Aslan and famous entrepreneur Ali Agaoglu were also detained during the same operation. Searches were conducted in Halk Bank's office. Suleyman Aslan was released on February 14. Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a new composition of government in late December, 2013 following a meeting with Turkey's President Abdullah Gul. Translated by E.A. Edited by C.N.
