South Korea’s special representative arrives in Beijing for talks on North Korea’s nuclear program

SEOUL, September 1. /TASS/. South Korea’s special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs Hwang Joon-kook has arrived in Beijing for talks with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei to discuss North Korea’s nuclear program, the Republic of Korea’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. The sides will discuss the situation in North Korea in the framework of the recent agreement reached between P5+1 group (five permanent members of UN Security Council and Germany) and Tehran on Iran’s nuclear program. Seoul says this should push Pyongyang to the path of dialogue on the nuclear program issue. "The resolution of the Iranian crisis made talks between Seoul and Beijing on North Korea more urgent," South Korean Foreign Ministry noted. Hwang will also hold several meetings with Chinese experts on international affairs and Pyongyang’s nuclear program, journalists, political analysts, historians and other scientists. "Meeting with those people, explaining the position of the Republic of Korea on the North Korean problem and listening to their opinions on this matter, the special representative plans to deepen and expand strategic communication between Seoul and Beijing," the foreign ministry said.
