Southern Thai insurgents active in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT (Southern Thailand), July 22 (TNA) - Insurgents have put up signposts, full of words written in Thai and Rumi, demanding the withdrawal of security forces from Thailand’s southern border province of Narathiwat. Large chunks of billboards were taken down across 38 locations in eight districts, including on tree trunks, power lines, bridges and roads. The latest incident comes despite a ceasefire agreement between the Barisan Revolusi Nasional militant group and the Thai government, which would be in force for 40 days during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. The ceasefire agreement would cover three southern border provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala as well as five districts in Songkhla, Na Thawi, Sadao, Thepa, Chana and Saba Yoi. (TNA)
