Southern trains in usual operations after shooting in Yala

SONGKHLA, April 14 (TNA) -- All southern train services are operating as usual in the Thai southernmost provinces, despite the recent shooting of a train in Yala province yesterday, though local security has been beefed up to ensure more safety for the public. Both the inbound and outbound trains running in the three southernmost provinces of the country from Hat Yai to Su-ngai Golok stations are still operating normally, although the 454 local train linking Nakhong Si Thammarat-Su-ngai Golok-Yala was ambushed by shooters yesterday. Authorities also said that the ambushed train line is also back in operation as usual, as only the body of the train was slightly damaged. Train Traffic Inspector of Hat Yai district in Songkhla province, Samarn Raksawong said the recent incident was only carried out to create disruption, but all train officials' spirit and will power remained strong despite the ordeal, as all officials wanted to ensure that services to the people would not be interrupted. Nonetheless, Mr Samarn said, security has been tightened, as the violent incidents on trains and their stations have now taken place twice in the area, with the previous incident being a bomb attack at Chana train station in Songkhla provincc eon April 11. Meanwhile, the police are still gathering more evidence concerning the bombing at Jana train station to track down the two prime suspects connecting to the case. (TNA)
