SPRM, Thailand NACC Form Working Group To Combat Corruption

KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 (Bernama) -- A working group will be jointly set up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Thai National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to combat corruption on the Malaysia-Thai border. MACC Policy, Planning and Research Division director Ahmad Khusairi Yahya said this was achieved in a bilateral cooperation meeting which was held in conjunction with the meeting of the secretariat of the South East Asia Parties Against Corruption (SEA-PAC), last month. "The working group will also discuss joint operations on the enforcement of anti-corruption in line with Article 48 and 49 of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC)," he said in a statement, Friday. Among the other roles of the group is to boost the cooperation between the officers of MACC and NACC to facilitate implementation of duties and responsibilities of both agencies, other than sharing corruption prevention practices with the cooperation of numerous enforcement agencies at the Malaysia-Thai border. It also focused on the effort to boost knowledge of issues on corruption and identify several effective prevention approaches against corruption, he said. Ahmad Khusairi said MACC and NACC reached a consensus to take turns to organise working group meetings, with its first meeting to be hosted by MACC in October. --BERNAMA
