Sri Lanka Industry Minister Praises QRCS Relief, Development Efforts

Doha, May 17 (QNA) - HE Sri Lankan Minister of Industry Risad Badhiutheen praised that active role played by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in the relief and development fields in many countries including Sri Lanka. He also valued the QRCS's efforts in the area of humanitarian diplomacy through hosting the Islamic Forum of International Humanitarian Law. During a meeting with HE Secretary General of QRCS Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, HE the Sri Lankan Minister voiced his country's desire to promote cooperation with QRCS, through a series of projects of sponsoring poor students in schools and universities in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Housing and Resource Development Organization there. The two sides discussed aspects of joint humanitarian cooperation and means of enhancing services to Sri Lankan communities in cooperation with the Sri Lankan National Assembly. For his part, Al Hammadi commended the partnership and cooperation with the Sri Lankan National Assembly, referring to the many achievements made by QRCS in Sri Lanka, the latest of which is the drilling of 321 wells to provide clean drinking water. He said that the proposed projects will be studied and that efforts will be made to provide the resources to meet the needs of the students and all those in need in Sri Lanka in order to embody the mission of the Qatar Red Crescent Society in establishing peace and educate communities on peaceful ways of living and coexistence in the Islamic teachings. QRCS had implemented several projects to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka, particularly in the water, sanitation and shelter sectors. (QNA)
