SRT acquires more smart trains for more smart trains for passengers in Thailand

BANGKOK, July 14 (TNA) - The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has publicly introduced 39 out of 115 newly-acquired smart trains to serve passengers in the country, with their full services set to be launched by 2017. Thai Deputy Transport Ormsin Chivapruck presided over an event to introduce the first batch-39 new smart trains at Sriracha Station in seaside Chon Buri Province in the Thai East on Thursday, during which SRT Governor Wutthichart Kalayanamitr and invited media members were also present. The deputy minister said the new smart trains, purchased from China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) or China CNR Corporation Limited (CNR), represent a major step taken by SRT to modernise its passenger trains. The SRT governor, on the other hand, announced that acquirement procedures of all the new smart trains will be completed within this month and SRT will invite Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha to preside over a ceremony to first launch part of the new trains on the Bangkok-Chiang Mai route and vice versa next month. According to the SRT governor, all the newly-acquired smart trains will serve passengers with specially-express service tickets on four routes, including Bangkok-Chiang Mai and vice versa, Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani and vice versa, Bangkok-Nong Khai and vice versa and Bangkok-Hat Yai and vice versa. The new passenger trains are equipped with modern entertainment and service systems, such as LCD screens and USB sockets for all first-classed passengers, with the screens not only providing entertainment for passengers, but also serving as a platform to relay SRT information to them and a channel for them to get in touch with train attendants to order food or ask for help. Meanwhile, the second- classed compartments are equipped with four central large LCD screens used to inform passengers of the arrival times to the final destinations and other useful information. Besides, the new smart trains are equipped with a digital board on its sides to inform of the next station, but the most important change is restrooms where SRT has chosen to use the vacuum toilet system similar to those aboard airplanes. During Thursday's introduction of the first batch of the new smart trains, new uniforms of SRT officials aboard trains were also presented. (TNA)
