Statistics of accidents and disasters

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In the first ten months of this year, three thous. 899 disasters and accidents occurred. Nearly 200 people died, and 235.3 thousand heads of livestock were lost due to them. Apart of this, there were 3,274 construction fires, 176 forest fires, 120 flood and river and lake accidents, 71 cases of rabies disease, 52 heavy rains and floods, 37 severe storms, 39 cases of 3.5-magnitude earthquake, 27 thunders, 26 incidents related to chemical substances usage, and 14 industrial accidents. An estimated damage caused by the construction fires stood at 8.7 billion MNT, by forest fires--MNT 6.1 billion, by heavy rain and floods--3.1 billion, severe storms--700.4 million, by foot-and-mouth disease cases--MNT 595.5 million, by thunders--125.8 million. Almost 200 people died in floods and river and lake accidents, 52--in construction fires, eight--in due to thunders, six--in mining and rock falls, eight--in industrial accidents, three--due to heavy rains and floods, two--in forest fires, and two--in severe storms. The number of disasters and accidents went up by 532 against the same period of 2012. An increase in losses and deaths of livestock and animals was 223.1 thousand heads.
