Strict measures against Ebola introduced at all Thai airports

BANGKOK, August 21 (TNA) - Measures have been strictly implemented to prevent and control any Ebola-infected suspect from entering Thailand through all airports. Mekin Petplai, President of Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), made the confirmation on Thursday, stressing that the measures taken at all Thai airports to prevent any deadly Ebola virus spread are equal to international standards applied against terrorist attacks and natural disasters. Mekin said that the tightened preventive measures are, therefore, considered sufficient to bring the Ebola disease under control at all Thai airports. Mekin elaborated that AOT has coordinated with concerned agencies under the Ministry of Public Health to set up checkpoints at Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport and other airports to screen inbound passengers from foreign countries, especially those where there are outbreaks of Ebola virus. According to the AOT president, the preventive measures include separating passengers with temperatures higher than 38 degrees Celsius or other suspicious symtoms and sending them to hospitals where control plans were rehearsed and well-prepared to handle suspected Ebola cases. Regarding to reports on a Myanmar passenger suspected of contracting Ebola recently made a stopover at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport enroute to Myanmar, the AOT chief insisted that there were no reports from officials at the airport's health control checkpoints concerning the suspected Ebola case for AOT to take further steps under the tightened preventive and control measures.
