Strong Tremors Felt In Major Indian Cities In The North

By M.Santhiran NEW DELHI (India), April 25 (Bernama) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 with the epicenter about 77 kilometres from Nepal's capital city of Kathmandu, sent strong tremors across Northern India. People in Indian cities as far Mumbai and Kolkata in the north and even Cochin down south reported tremors lasting between 30 seconds and 45 minutes. In the capital city of New Delhi, people rushed out to the streets but so far no major damages or casualties have been officially confirmed. However, many were afraid to return to their buildings or houses. Within minutes of the earthquake, the Indian Meteorological Department warned that it was a massive quake and that Indians of the Northern states should be prepared for aftershocks. The department reported aftershocks of 6.6 in magnitude with the Indian capital recording a magnitude of 5 in the Richter Scale. --BERNAMA
