Student of Turkish school in Pakistan tops international math exam

ISLAMABAD (A.A) - 08.01.2012 - A student of a Turkish school in Pakistan became a champion in math category in an international examination of the University of Cambridge. Usama Mehmood, a student of Pak-Turk school Lahore high school for boys, came the first in the "O Level" examination of the University of Cambridge. 12 million students from 200 countries joined the exam. "I owe my success to curriculum of our school, close interest of my math teacher, and my hard work," Mehmood told AA correspondent. Mehmood said he wanted to go to a Turkish university, and receive economy economy.  "Math teacher Mehmet Zengin has the biggest share in Mehmood's success," headmaster of the school Adem Akgedik said. The Pak-Turk schools have been operating in Pakistan since 1996, and have 22 branches in seven provinces. Around 6,000 Pakistani students are having education in these schools. Cambridge O Level, part of the Cambridge Secondary 2 stage, is typically for 14-16 year olds. Cambridge O Level is an internationally recognised qualification equivalent to the UK General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE). Cambridge O Level provides learners with excellent preparation for academic progression to Cambridge Advanced including Cambridge International AS and A Levels and Cambridge Pre-U. Cambridge O Levels have been designed especially for an international market and are sensitive to the needs of different countries. These qualifications are designed for learners whose first language may not be English and this is acknowledged throughout the examination process. The curriculum also enables teaching to be placed in a localised context, making it relevant in various regions.
