Students Must Be Smart In Obtaining Info On Developments In M'sia

By: Rhoma Ahmad Razali CAIRO, April 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysian students abroad must be smart in getting valid information on current issues and developments occurring at home. Negeri Sembilan (states of Malaysia) Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) Mohamad Hasan said they should not depend solely on the social websites such as the blogs, Twitter and Facebook as the information in such media did not adhere to journalism ethics. "The situation in the information technology era is unlike before. Information and news can be obtained at the fingertip through various ways such as the social websites. "But writers on the social websites are not licensed and are not governed by ethics or guidelines like the journalists and they could write anything they wanted," he told the Malaysian media after a gathering with the Umno Overseas Club in Egypt, here Saturday. Mohamad is here on a three-day working visit to observe developments concerning Negeri Sembilan students pursuing studies in Egypt. He said that besides reading information or news carried on the social website, students should also read news or information from other sources for comparison. This way, they could get more accurate information and would not be easily influenced by elements who could weaken their national sentiments. -- BERNAMA
