Sudanese FM: Qatar is Sudan's Biggest Supporter

Doha, June 30 (QNA) - Sudanese Foreign Minister Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour stressed that the State of Qatar remained Sudan's biggest supporter in many issues, especially in the issue of Darfur peace and its development. In an interview with (Al Watan) newspaper published Wednesday, he said that the Qatari leadership, led by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, provided for Sudan every possible support in very complex circumstances, adding that Sudan was surrounded by a lot of economic, political and security problems. He added that what distinguishes the Sudanese-Qatari relations file is Qatar's stance towards Darfur issue and the effort made by Doha where it hosted talks lasted for three years which confirms the existence of a great appreciation from the Qatari leadership to the Sudanese people. He also underlined the Qatari investments in Sudan and said that Qatar has white hands to support Sudan, adding that the last meeting between HH the Emir and Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir refers to a good future. Regarding the tension with the State of South Sudan, the Minister said that with the recent understandings in Khartoum, his country is somewhat optimistic about some thing and is moving in the right direction, adding that Sudan is looking forward to opening a new page with the South. He indicated that Sudan's leadership accepted the separation, but are looking forward to strong and special relations. About Sudan's foreign policy, the Sudanese Foreign Minister said they give priority to southern Sudan and therefore one of the most important understandings that there will be no shelter for any armed movements in accordance to IGAD peace agreement in the South. Sudanese Foreign Minister Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour stressed in his interview with Al Watan newspaper Sudan's firm stance on the issue of Yemen, saying in this visions are unite with all Arab leaderships and governments, based on the Arab League's unanimous decisions that stresses the importance of restoring legitimacy in Yemen. He added that efforts are vary between the direct military command as for Saudi Arabia, military participation in different ways as for Sudan or political assistance and support played by the Arab countries. And about his country's position towards the Syrian crisis, Minister Ghandour said that his country's position will remain the same as a political solution is the best for the Syrian crisis and that a military solution will prolong it. He also expressed hope that relations normalization between Sudan and the United States will end before the next presidential election. Regarding the road map and the divergent positions between the Sudanese government and the opposition, Prof. Ghandour explained that the opposition will sign the road map because there is no other choice, stressing that the map has an international support from the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League and all the African countries and the international community represented by the US and the EU. On the developments in the case of Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the Sudanese Foreign Minister said his country is not a mediator but a partner, and as upstream and downstream countries, they should work to have no negative consequences for any of the States Parties. About the conflicts and tensions in Libya and some neighboring countries and the expansion of ISIS and Boko Haram as well as their penetration into Sudan , Prof. Ghandour said that terrorism has no borders, nation or religion, expressing confidence of the security services which revealed a lot of cells.
