Summer storms cause damage in Thai Northeast

LOEI, May 9 (TNA) - Summer storms have not ended in the Northeast. Eleven power poles were felled in Loei province while Nakhon Phanom continuously suffered the bad weather for two weeks. A summer storm hit Ban Klang village of Chiang Klom sub-district in Pak Chom district of Loei yesterday evening. Trees and power poles were toppled there. As many as 11 power poles were leveled on Ban That-Pak Chom Road, causing a power outage from last night to early this morning. Local administrative officials were surveying damage and would work out assistance. Fortunately no one was injured there. In Nakhon Phanom province, soldiers and local officials were repairing about 50 houses damaged by a storm in Muang Nakhon Phanom district last night. A series of storms kept striking the province in the past two weeks. Previous damage covered about 600 houses and was estimated at nearly 10 million baht. Lt Gen Wichai Chaejorhor, chief of the 2nd Army, inspected storm damage in Buri Ram province on May 9. He urged concerned officials to quickly help victims. In the Northeast, summer storms have damaged about 13,000 houses including about 1,000 residences in Buri Ram. Soldiers are mobilized for the repair. (TNA)
