Supreme Council of Health Announces 3rd Coronavirus Case in Qatar

Doha, May 21 (QNA) - The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has announced that an infection of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS CoV) has been confirmed in a 29 year old resident working at a camel farm, taking the total number of confirmed cases in Qatar to three. The patient visited a primary care health center on Tuesday with symptoms of fever and cough for five days. Test results came positive on Wednesday for MERS CoV and he was transferred to the hospital under strict Infection Prevention and Control measures, SCH said in a press release. He has no co-morbidities or travel history during the incubation period of MERS CoV and is currently in a stable condition and receiving the appropriate treatment under strict measures. A detailed investigation will be carried out at the barn where the patient works and other workers and camels will be examined. SCH urged the public to follow the necessary protocol set by the World Health Organization (WHO) when dealing with camels, avoid close contact with them when visiting farms and barns, and report to the health authorities on the development of any respiratory symptoms. Queries to health and prevention authorities can be made on hotlines 66740948 and 66740951. (QNA)
