Supreme Council for Women, Derasat to conduct survey on family cohesion

Manama, Dec. 26 (BNA): The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies "Derasat” have agreed to conduct a survey on family cohesion and stability in Bahrain. The survey will measure the extent of family cohesion and will include recommendations that would enhance and support programs and initiatives directed to achieve the objectives of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women within the area of family stability. Cooperation with Derasat on the survey emanates from the terms of reference of the Supreme Council for Women as a national expertise house in women's affairs and issues, SCW Secretary General Hala Al Ansari said. The results of this study will boost the process of developing policies, legislation and services in support of family bonding as well as enhancing awareness programs about the principles of family stability and prevention of family problems. Awareness and community education will be enhanced through the media and civil society institutions, which will support skills development, capacity building, and family protection to maintain the highest levels of social stability, she added. Derasat Board Chairman Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa expressed deep pride in the strategic cooperation with the Supreme Council for Women in line with the comprehensive approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to enhance women's partnership status and demonstrating their successful contributions in various fields, within the framework of consolidating the pillars of the modern civil state. The qualitative and innovative programs adopted by the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, aim at elevating the status of women and at investing smartly in people. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah praised the pioneering endeavors and successive achievements made by the Supreme Council for Women, headed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King in supporting the progress of Bahraini women who hold advanced positions. Derasat accords great significance to families as it considers them the primary nucleus of society and a major pillar of development and progress, he added. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah pointed out that there is a close bond between family cohesion and community security that enhances national and moral values and the ability to confront negative and harmful influences. Opinion polls and surveys are of great importance in formulating general trends towards various issues and in assessing programs and policies. For Derasat, measuring public opinion trends is an important way to support sustainable development efforts, he said.
