Supreme Patriarch’s message on Asanha Bucha Day

BANGKOK, July 26 (TNA) - In his address on the occasion of the Asanha Bucha Day on July 27, His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch encouraged Buddhists to keep the Three Jewels of Buddhism as the guidance of life. Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatanana VIII, the Supreme Patriarch, said the Asanha Bucha Day was a very important day of Buddhists as it marked Lord Buddha’s declaration of Buddhism and the first sermon of Buddhism to his first five disciples. One of them was then enlightened and sought ordination. That created the Three Jewels of Buddhism: Buddha, Dharma (Buddhism teachings) and Sangha (monks). His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch said Buddhists should protect all the Three Jewels so that they would continue to exist as the guidance of their life. On the occasions of the Asanha Bucha Day and the Buddhist Lent, His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch also encouraged Buddhists to review Buddhism teachings and recognize the importance of the Three Jewels for the sake of personal and social peace and happiness.
