Suspect in series of attacks in Thai Far South detained

BANGKOK, April 21 (TNA) - A suspected insurgent in connection with April 19’s synchronized shootings and grenade attacks at 13 locations in three southernmost Thai provinces has been arrested and detained by local security authorities. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan told journalists of the update, saying that a DNA test showed the suspect also involved in a series of attacks in the violence-plagued Thai Far South on April 6. In response to a recent warning of a, probably, terror threat issued by Russia's state tourism agency for Russian tourists in Thailand to avoid visiting crowded public places, General Prawit insisted, meanwhile, that Thailand not involve in any conflict and not become a terror target, but only a transit country. General Prawit, who oversees national security, stressed, however, that security and intelligence agencies, as well as other relevant agencies have remained alert to closely monitor the updated situation. According to the deputy premier, the Russian warning was issued after last Wednesday night's string of insurgent attacks in the Thai Far South. (TNA)
