Sustainable development workshops conclude

Manama, May 30 (BNA): The curtain fell on two specialised workshops, which were held in cooperation with the Thomson Reuters. The National Communication Centre (NCC) organised the workshops under the themes “Forming Government Speakers on Sustainable Development” and “Training Media Personnel on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.  Twenty Government entities and twenty media figures from Bahrain and the region took part in the workshops which opened last Sunday and lasted for four days.  The key workshops were held on the sidelines of efforts to draft the 1st national voluntary report on sustainable development goals, which will be presented in July at a high-level political forum at the UN headquarters in New York.  The four-day workshops focused on enhancing the professional performance of participants in charge of communication and media and building new competences towards harmonizing the government discourse.  The workshops aimed also at empowering the participants and enabling them to use objective tools to reflect the sustainable development goals in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  NCC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Ali Behzad said that the two specialised workshops are part of NCC communication strategy related to the Kingdom’s first voluntary national report on the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.  He expressed thanks to the participants, who presented Government departments and media establishments, wishing them success in benefiting from the skills and expertise they had acquired in drafting the first national voluntary report on the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.  s United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Bahrain Amin El-Sharkawi underlined the UN drive to provide technical expertise to all government and non-government entities and inform them about the integration of sustainable development goals in development strategies. He commended the crucial role played by the National Communication Centre (NCC), stressing the importance of training the first batch of participants and informing them about sustainable development goals. He hailed the NCC initiative to form media personnel and Government speakers so that they public accurate data, which would engage citizens and decision-makers in implementing the SDGs Agenda.
