Suu Kyi to visit Thailand in late May

BANGKOK, May 25 (TNA) - Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi is scheduled to visit Thailand next week, her first trip outside her home country in more than two decades, to attend a regional conference. Nyan Win, a spokesman for Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy or NLD, announced on Thursday that Suu Kyi, Myanmar's pro-democracy icon who endured years of house arrest under the Myanmar military rule, will arrive in Bangkok on May 28 to participate in the World Economic Forum on East Asia to be held in the Thai capital. Suu Kyi's visit to Bangkok comes ahead of her longer trip to Europe next month, during which she will make a series of key addresses, including the acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize that she has not yet received since 1991.(TNA)
