Suu Kyiv visits Myanmar workers amid joyful welcome, tight security

SAMUT SAKHON, THAILND, May 30 (TNA) - Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi Wednesday visited Myanmar workers at the office of the Migrant Worker Rights Network in the Thai central province, amid joyful welcome and tight security. Thousands of Myanmar workers had gathered outside the office since early morning waiting to see her beloved opposition leader and democracy activist, while more than 100 local police had been deployed to ensure order at the gathering. Upon her arrival at the office, Suu Kyi was greeted by the Myanmar workers, who loudly shouted “Free Free Myanmar”. Suu Kyi then addressed the crowd of Myanmar workers from a balcony of the office’s building, saying that she came to see “how well they live in Thailand”. She then told the workers not to cause any problem to Thai people. Suu Kyi received thunderous applause when she asked her compatriots “if they want to return to their homeland”. The leader of the National League for Democracy Party then met representatives of Myanmar workers and Thai labor organizations before leaving the office. There are about 300,000 Myanmar people in Samut Sakhon. (TNA)
