Taiwan Wants Greater Coop Among APEC Members

Jakarta, Sept 17 (Antara) - Taiwan is looking for greater cooperation in partnerships during the Summit Economic Cooperation Asia-Pacific (APEC summit) 2013, the country`s Deputy Trade and Economic Representative Office said in Indonesia. "The future challenge for APEC is that (participating) countries become more cooperative in addressing bilateral and multilateral issues," Phoebe Yeh, the Deputy Trade and Economic Representative of Taiwan in Indonesia, said on Tuesday during discussions at the President University in Cikarang. Phoebe said she realized that the cooperation process would take a long time because it had to be discussed among many countries. But she stressed that a cooperative teamwork was more important for enhancing better relations between countries in many different areas. "We also want to conduct a bilateral dialogue in the region," Pheobe added. Taiwan as a member of APEC has been well prepared for the event. Its readiness is related to important issues, such as cooperation, connections, and promotion of the Asia Pacific region. "We want to discuss these subjects with the APEC leaders," she said. The 2013 APEC Summit will be held in Bali from October 1 to 8 and will be based on the "Resilient Asia Pacific, Engines of Global Growth" theme that is being followed by the Indonesian government. The issue of economic security and global growth engines will be the main themes for discussion during APEC 2013. In addition to the 21 heads of state of APEC member countries, the event is expected to be attended by 5,000 delegates and media from various countries.
