Taras Shevchenko`s anniversary marked in Baku

Baku, March 11 (AzerTAc). The Ukrainian embassy to Azerbaijan has hosted a series of events to mark the 199th anniversary of great poet Taras Shevchenko. According to the embassy, the event the participants laid flowers at a monument to the poet in Baku. Speaking to the event, Ukrainian Ambassador Alexander Mishchenko praised Taras Shevchenko`s literary heritage. Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko was a Ukrainian poet and artist. He is also known under the name Kobzar after his most famous literary work, a collection of poems entitled Kobzar. His literary heritage is regarded to be the foundation of modern Ukrainian literature and, to a large extent, the modern Ukrainian language. Shevchenko also wrote in Russian and is remembered for many masterpieces as a painter and an illustrator.
