TASS joins MINDS International news agency association

MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. Russia's news agency TASS has joined the international association of news agencies MINDS International following accession approved at an association conference in Vienna in March. "Representing Russia in the association of news agencies is a huge responsibility," TASS Director-General Sergey Mikhailov said. "We intend to embrace the opportunities of the MINDS International membership, which provides access to know-how and innovation products developed by the leading news agencies on the global media market." Flying Russian's flag, TASS filed an application for organisation membership last year at its Stockholm assembly in development plans outlined by TASS Deputy Director-General Maxim Filimonov. Each country is represented in MINDS International by a single news agency. The association judges this necessary to rule out competition between association members to create an atmosphere of free exchange of opinion and experience within the group. MINDS International was registered as a non-profit organisation in 2007. Its aim is mutual support of its members during their transition to digital journalism. This gives member-agencies the opportunity to use each other’s technological solutions in developing their own or joint mobile and multimedia services. At the time of TASS accession, MINDS comprised news agencies in 21 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. All members have equal opportunities in the association, irrespective of their size or financial weight. Read more
