TASS, Xinhua sign documents on cooperation with SCO Secretariat

BEIJING, March 11. /TASS/. Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Rashid Alimov and TASS Director General Sergei Mikhailov have signed in Beijing on Friday a Treaty on Information Cooperation between the SCO Secretariat and TASS. A similar document has been signed between the SCO Secretariat and China’s Xinhua news agency. The parties undertook to make efforts to further develop and consolidate cooperation in the field of information, to promote in every way possible the media cooperation and exchanges within the organization. They will also lend support to the SCO Press Club and other organizations and institutions in the SCO member-countries, observer states and dialogue partners whose aim is to promote the SCO’s goals and ideals. The members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It is expected that during the organization’s forthcoming summit in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in the summer the accession of India and Pakistan will be confirmed. Iran and Afghanistan, which are currently observer states, are seeking full-fledged SCO membership. The "SCO family" comprises a total of 18 countries, including the observer states and dialogue partners. A few more countries have expressed their intention to take part in the activities of the SCO, which brings together the countries with a population of about three billion people. Read more
