TAT plans new campaigns to boost domestic tours

BANGKOK, April 30 (TNA) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is rolling out campaigns to boost domestic tours in the last five months of this fiscal year. TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said on April 29 that the campaigns would encourage Thai people to have domestic vacations and they were designed to suit vacationers' personalities, travel behaviours, ages, and favourite destinations. In May, the campaigns will prompt families to travel just before the new school term. Promotions will be available especially for weekday trips. In June, people will be encouraged to try famous foods in localities. In July old people and families will be wooed to make merits in provinces for the Buddhist Lent period. Families and women will be targeted for such campaigns in August when the Mother's Day falls and September will be the promotional month for those who are about to retire. The TAT will also launch lucky draws to stimulate tourists' spending. Mr Yuthasak said that the campaigns should encourage 12 million people to travel locally and result in 42.96 billion baht changing hands during the period on the estimation that each traveller would spend 3,580 baht per day.
