Tehran and IAEA implement "road map" on Iran’s nuclear programme - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, December 10 /TASS/. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which has seen no signs of undeclared nuclear materials or nuclear activities in Iran, is now expected to annual all its previous resolutions on Iran’s nuclear programme, Mikhail Ulyanov, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry department for non-proliferation and arms control, told TASS. Turning the Page "Iran and the IAEA have fully implemented and exhausted a ‘road map’, which was agreed in mid-July with an aim to clarify questions, which the IAEA had to Iran," Ulyanov said referring to a confidential report, which the IAEA director-general had circulated last week. "All the answers have been given. It is a separate question whom they are going to satisfy or not to satisfy and to what degree. But, the answers have been received. The most vital conclusion has been drawn: no signs of undeclared nuclear materials or the presence of undeclared nuclear activities have been found in Iran," the Russian diplomat said. "The next step will be to turn this page instead of digging in history, which has got nothing to do with real politics, and focus on implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to settle problems linked to Iran’s nuclear programme that provides for all the necessary mechanisms to make sure that Iran meets its commitments," Ulyanov went on to say. According to him, the IAEA Board of Governors, which is meeting in an extraordinary session next week, is supposed to take account of the report. The session is to pass a draft resolution annulling all the previous resolutions as not matching the existing realities. A group of six powers known as the "P5 +1" group (the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany) has already submitted an appropriate draft resolution to the IAEA Board of Governors. Implementation Day "The Iranians should carry out all the measures prescribed by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to bring the agreement’s Implementation Day (the day when the document’s implementation will officially get off the ground) closer," the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry non-proliferation and arms control department said. "Everybody admits that they are actively working in this direction. Tehran wants Implementation Day to come as early as possible," Ulyanov said. "We are contributing to it at the national level. We are taking excessive amounts of low-enriched uranium to Russia so that the uranium reserves remaining in Iran do not exceed 300 kilogrammes. It is just part of preparatory works. On the whole, everything goes normally and quite successfully and will be completed in foreseeable future," the Russian diplomat explained. "As soon as the Iranians meet all preliminary conditions, the IAEA will prepare a report, which will be submitted to the United Nations Security Council. After that, all the sanctions imposed on Iran by the United Nations Security Council and unilaterally by the United States and the European Union are supposed to be lifted," Ulyanov said adding opinions were divided as to when that could really happen. "The Iranians promise to finish everything in January while sceptics insist on a later date - not earlier than April (next year). But these are only suggestions. The IAEA will proceed from the real state of things," the Russian diplomat concluded. Read more
