Tehran Symphony Orchestra performs “Karun” at Vahdat Hall

TEHRAN,July 8 (MNA) -- The Tehran Symphony Orchestra performed “The Karun Symphony” at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on Friday evening. Vocalist Salar Aqili and renowned guitarist Lili Afshar accompanied the orchestra, which was conducted by composer Majid Entezami. Entezami was commissioned by the Iran Music Association and the Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company to compose the symphony in order to play up the construction of the Karun-3 and Karun-4 dams in Khuzestan Province on the Karun River. The dams devoured a portion of Iran’s precious cultural heritage now submerged in their reservoirs. Deputy Culture Minister for Artistic Affairs Hamid Shahabadi and Iran Music Association Director Ali Torabi were among the audience. Entitled “We Can”, the first movement was accompanied by Afshar’s guitar solo. Entezami had also made use of senj and dammam, the two Iranian percussion instruments played in the southern region of Iran, in the first movement. The second movement named “Water and Light” began with a harp solo by Azarnush Sadr-Salek. “Self-Esteem and Independence” and “Glory of Karun” were the third and fourth movements respectively. Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjou with Shahabadi appeared backstage at the end of the performance and expressed their gratitude to Entezami and the members of the orchestra. The Tehran Symphony Orchestra also performed the symphony last night.
