The Telegraph posts article on Baku 2015 first European Games

Baku, June 13, AZERTAC The Telegraph has published an article headlined “Baku 2015 - all you need to know about the European Games”. Written by Ben Bloom, the article says: “The European Games are the brainchild of the European Olympic Committee, devised as a multi-sporting event for the entire continent along the lines of an Olympic or Commonwealth Games. You may have heard of the Asian Games, the Pan-American Games, the All-Africa Games or the Pacific Games – well, this is meant to be the European version. The first edition of the European Games takes place this month and is scheduled to be held every four years … but more on that later. Fifty countries will compete in the inaugural tournament and Team GB is sending 160 athletes including the flagbearer, Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams. The 2015 European Games is to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 12 to 28. Baku was awarded the right to host the event back in 2012 because no one else fancied it when it was the sole bidder. Five new venues have been built specifically for the event and six temporary venues are to be used. There will 20 sports involved in Baku – 16 Olympic events plus karate, beach soccer, 3-on-3 basketball and sambo (a martial art that originated in the Soviet Union). There will be 253 medal events in total, with 12 sports offering opportunities to qualify for next year’s Olympic Games in Rio. You’ll need BT Sport, because all 17 days of action are exclusively live on that channel and that channel alone.”
