Telugu Academy To Come Up By August 2017

RAWANG (Selangor, Malaysia), Feb 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Telugu Association Friday performed the ground-breaking for Malaysia's first Telugu Academy that is set to become a hub for Telugu language and cultural development in Southeast Asia. Its President, Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao, who performed the ceremony at the project site in Sungai Choh here, said the academy was expected to be ready in August next year. Construction of the academy, comprising three blocks of five-storey buildings, would begin on April 8, he said. The academy would have eight classrooms, four seminar rooms, a cafetaria and a recreational and cultural centre, he said, adding that it could accommodate about 400 people. "The academy will help realise our desire for Telugu education at the diploma and degree levels besides the sharing of teaching expertise with the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in Andhra Pradesh," he said. Achaiah Kumar said the setting up of the academy was in line with the objective of the association to empower the Telugu language and culture among the 500,000 Telugu people in the country. He said about 300 students and 50 teachers had been emplaced in locations that included Tamil schools and branch offices of the association nationwide. "The academy building, once ready, will provide a conducive learning environment for the students," he said. -- BERNAMA
