TFQ and ExxonMobil Qatar in Pact to Boost Education

Doha, September 28 (QNA) - HE Sheikha Hind Bint Hamad Al-Thani, Founding Chairperson of Teach For Qatar (TFQ); and Bart Cahir, President and General Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar Inc. met in Doha to formalize a partnership between Teach For Qatar and ExxonMobil Qatar. The partnership between ExxonMobil Qatar and TFQ is a result of the commitment of both parties to closing the education gap in Qatar, by contributing to the development of the independent school system. HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad said, "Teach For Qatar recognizes that teaching in Qatar is not currently considered a top career choice, meaning low reinvestment of top graduates into the education system. This year we took the first step in tackling this challenge by placing the first cohort of hand-picked Fellows into independent schools, and with partners such as ExxonMobil Qatar who are committed to supporting the education system in Qatar, I believe we can continue to tap into the next generation of leaders, and draw them to inspire in classrooms and schools as well as their communities." Speaking about the new pact Bart Cahir said, "This partnership offers a win-win partnership framework between both our organizations, and addresses some of the most challenging issues that affect learning in our children's classrooms today. "We want to be part of a local effort to create a learning environment for students that is inspiring, exciting and engaging, and which will nurture them to develop their leadership skills. We are very happy to partner with TFQ towards achieving this goal, and commend HE Sheikha Hind and her team for their valuable efforts." TFQ CEO Mohammed Fakhroo welcomed ExxonMobil into the TFQ family, which currently includes the Supreme Education Council, Qatar Foundation and Qatar Petroleum as partners, saying, "TFQ is a unique learning journey for young graduates or professionals looking to develop as leaders. Working with our partners we strive not only to improve experiences for our children in schools, but to build on the skills of exceptional youth and provide them with two years of ongoing support and development." TFQ is a local NGO that is working to be part of the solution to the education challenges that Qatar's students face, by giving access to exceptional, talented leaders into the independent school system in Qatar. TFQ provides graduates and young professionals who wish to give back to Qatar - whether nationals or residents - the opportunity to inspire students through a two-year teaching placement. ExxonMobil Qatar has a strategic plan in place to help advance education in Qatar particularly in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), in collaboration with key community partners in Qatar. For this particular partnership, ExxonMobil Qatar will provide global expertise and best practices in training, and support for talent acquisition and recruitment, in addition to assistance in organizing summer institutes and sponsoring fellows.
