TH Introduces Perdana Masyair Cleanliness Programme for Malaysian Pilgrims

From Zarul Effendi Razali  MAKKAH, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Tabung Haji (TH) Friday launched the ‘Perdana Masyair’ Cleanliness Programme for the haj operations this year, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.   He said the programme is aimed at encouraging Malaysian pilgrims to work together to keep their tents clean during the masyair period while in Arafah, Muzdalifah and Mina. Masyair is the name given to the peak of the haj season when all the pilgrims are gathered in Arafah, Muzdalifah and Mina. "TH has always monitored the cleanliness (of the tents) because pilgrims from all over the world will be gathered at the same time there during masyair. "Cleanliness (during masyair) is something that is seldom given priority by the pilgrims and Malaysian pilgrims are known for their good behaviour, so this (programme) will increase our status,” he told reporters after launching the programme here Friday. Also present was Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik and Malaysian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Zainol Rahim Zainuddin. Mujahid said as part of the cleanliness campaign, TH will provide black plastic rubbish bags which will be placed at strategic places while the pilgrims will have to bring their own small plastic bags to put their rubbish in for easier collection. "This campaign will be conducted not just in the tent areas in Arafah or Mina, but also in the tents where our pilgrims sleep,” he said. Mujahid said in Arafah and Muzdalifah, the pilgrims will look after the cleanliness of their surroundings individually while in Mina, the campaign will be conducted in groups from 8 am until 9 am for three days of tasyrik (the days following Hari Raya Aidil Adha).          "This campaign is very important as it reflects on Malaysian pilgrims in the Holy Land where they are often labeled as among the most well-mannered of all pilgrims and this is a world recognition for us,” Mujahid said. -- BERNAMA
