Thai agencies ink MOU on disaster warnings/responses

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) - Thailand's agencies concerned have inked a deal on forming a partnership for disaster preparedness and emergency responses with the use of Information and communications technologies (ICT), aimed to provide the public with immediate and updated disaster-related information. Royal Thai Air Force Commander-in-Chief Air Chief Marshal Prachin Jantong on Wednesday signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Bangkok with representatives of the other concerned agencies, including those from the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), the Electronic Government Agency, TOT and CAT Telecom Public Company Limited. Under the MOU, the Royal Thai Air Force supports the installation of SPEXER 1000 Radar and Video Down Link for disaster warnings and relief operations, as well as for data linkage between the Bangkok-based National Disaster Warning Centre, the Department of Meteorological and the concerned agencies, through the use of Radio Data System (RDS). The ICT Ministry will, meanwhile, provide relevant satellite images at the time of disasters. All the concerned agencies have also agreed to jointly test run electronic systems and to support emergency response drills. (TNA)
