Thai Air Force receives signals of plane changing course

BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) - The Royal Thai Air Force has received radar signals in southern Thailand of a plane changing its course towards the Strait of Malacca and it is verifying with Malaysian authorities whether the signals came from a Malaysia Airlines plane, Flight MH 370, which has gone missing since March 8, 2014. Thai Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Prajing Jantong confirmed on Tuesday that the Royal Thai Air Force's radar station in the southern Surat Thani Province recently found a passenger plane departing Malaysia and then turning around past Butterworth Town of Malaysia towards the Strait of Malacca, but there has been no confirmation by concerned authorities yet whether the plane was the missing Boeing 777-200ER plane of the Malaysia Airlines. Air Chief Marshal Prajing told journalists that the Royal Thai Air Force has sent the information to the Malaysian Air Force as requested. According to the Thai Air Force chief, if the missing Malaysia Airlines plane had flown to Vietnam, the Royal Thai Air Force's radar could not have detected it because the Royal Thai Air Force's radar system does not cover the area. The Thai Air Force chief acknowledged that the disappearance of the Flight MH 370 was unprecedented and should be a valuable lesson and if the plane had been hijacked, the operation would have been very complicated. Meanwhile, the Thai air force chief also opened Military Airport 2 under Wing 6 in Bangkok's Don Mueang area, a newly built and well-equipped facility, aimed at supporting increasing trips of cargoes and important persons.
