Thai anti-corruption agency NCCC selecting provincial officers

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, June 2 (TNA) - In an attempt to eradicate corruption in Thailand, the Office of the National Counter Corruption Commission (NCCC) is now selecting and appointing its members to be posted in every province in the country while it hopes that the process would be complete next month, said Klanarong Chantik, a member of NCCC. Mr Klanarong told participants attending a seminar, held at a hotel in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, that the NCCC, an independent body, in following the constitution which calls for suppressing corruption in the country effectively has already chosen NCCC officials in 32 provinces. Selection of officials in the rest of 44 provinces is expected to complete in July, Mr. Klanarong said, adding that the list of all the official names will be announced for the pubic to decide whether they are suitable persons. It needs a pressure from the public and cooperation from the media as well as allowing people to have role in order to effectively suppress malpractices in the country, said Mr. Klanarong. Pitifully, surveys conducted by ABAC Poll showed that most Thais shows indifferences to corruption if they also gain. However, NCCC has assigned its public relations officials in conducting a survey among students aged between 14-25 which found that majority of the new generation “disagreed and opposed corruption,” he added.
