Thai anti-drug teams tracking down drug networks

BANGKOK, July 11 (TNA) - Thailand's anti-drug teams, including officers of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and the Department of Sepcial Investigation (DSI), have kept tracking down drug networks expanding from neighbouring countries, with nearly two dozens of them having been wiped out. ONCB Secretary-General Sirinya Sitthichai told journalists on July 10 that there are five major drug syndicates in Thailand connecting with drug producers in neighbouring countries and the five main drug trafficking gangs have expanded into 60 networks. Sirinya said that his ONCB teams have arrested and wiped out 23 out of the 60 drug networks in Thailand so far, with the latest operation taking place on July 9. In Saturday's latest operation, the ONCB chief stated, Thai anti-narcotics officers nabbed two large ice meth dealers at a housing project in Bang Buathong area of Bangkok's neighbouring Nonthaburi Province and seized their assets, worth over 35 million baht, while the two Thai men confessed they had received the drugs from Chiang Rai Province in the Thai North to be sold nationwide. According to the ONCB chief Thai anti-narcotics teams are tracking down more drug networks in the country. (TNA)
