Thai army chief to attend ACAMM-15 in Hanoi

BANGKOK, November 21 (TNA) - Thai Army Commander-in-Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr, who is also Deputy Defence Minister, will visit Vietnam next week to attend the 15th ASEAN Chiefs of Armies Multilateral Meeting (ACAMM-15), aimed at strengthening army relations among member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Royal Thai Army Spokeswoman Colonel Sirichan Nga-thong told journalists on Friday that the upcoming ACAMM-15, set to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, from November 25-29, will give an opportunity for army commanders of ASEAN member countries to exchange views and strengthen their relations. The spokeswoman said top agenda of the ACAMM–15 include building a cooperation of ASEAN armies to tackle different forms of danger. According to the spokeswoman, the Thai army chief will also pay a courtesy call on Vietnamese Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh on the sidelines of the ACAMM–15 and will also visit Vietnamese military units. The ACAMM was initiated by the Royal Thai Army in 2000 and the Royal Thai Army has organised such the regional meeting twice since then. (TNA)
