Thai army chief hopes for improving political situation after Songkran

BANGKOK, April 11 (TNA) - Thai Army Commander-in-Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha says that he hopes the domestic political strife will be relieved after the Songkran or the Traditional Thai New Year Festival. General Prayuth suggested on Friday that every sector in the Thai society work and cooperate under the legal framework, which is in line with the universal democratic rule, if they do not want to see the country from stepping backward. General Prayuth told journalists that he wants to see the situation in the country to return to peace quickly and he hopes every group and every sector to cooperate, while the Thai military will continue to oversee for national security. General Prayuth stated that he also wants everybody to accept rules and not to do whatever they want. The Thai army chief made the remarks while he, along with other Royal Thai Armed Forces' chiefs and the National Police Chief, as well as high-ranking military and police officers, visited and extended their best wishes to Privy Council Chairman and Statesman General Prem Tinsulanonda on the occasion of the Songkran or the Traditional Thai New Year Festival. During the event, General Prem, who is also a former Thai prime minister, told the senior military and police officers to heed His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s advice that they perform their duties with honesty and in unity for the sake of national peace and order.(TNA)
