Thai authorities alert for public bus safety before Chinese New Year

BANGKOK, Jan 22 (TNA) -Thailand’s Department of Land Transport (DLT) is preparing to conduct bus safety inspections at all bus terminals across Thailand as part of efforts to prevent road accidents during the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year. Sanit Promwong, department’s director-general, said it will collaborate with the Office of Vocational Education Commission and relevant units to conduct a safety inspection campaign for public buses from Jan. 24 to Feb. 7. In addition to ensure proper conditions of the buses, drivers will be checked if they are properly licensed and have clean driving records. The DLT director-general added that mobile units will be deployed and GPS tracking devices will be used to monitor driver habits during Chinese New Year celebrations. (TNA)
