Thai authorities closely monitor rallies

BANGKOK, January 14 (TNA) - Embattled Caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinwatra and other authorities concerned have closely monitored updates relating to "Bangkok shutdown" by anti-government protesters. Canceling the Cabinet's weekly meeting on Tuesday morning, Yingluck discussed the updated situation with her Cabinet members and other concerned authorities, including Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Police General Pracha Promnok, Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Pongthep Thepkanjana, Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Bunsongphaisan, Caretaker Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Varathep Ratanakorn, Caretaker Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt, Permanent Secretary for the Prime Minister’s Office Thongthong Chandransu and National Security Council (NSC) Secretary-General Paradorn Pattanatabutr, at a "political war room" set up at the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defence in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok. The concerned authorities assessed the "Bangkok shutdown" mass rallies led by the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), which have continued for the second consecutive day, aimed at unseating the caretaker government and pushing for a domestic political reform prior to the new general election.(TNA)
