Thai authorities intercept wood smuggling

BANGKOK, April 21 (TNA) - The Mekong Riverine Unit of Thailand's northeastern NongKhai Province has intercepted an illegal smuggling of timbers into Laos. Authorities of the Mekong Riverine Unit were earlier tipped off by a local intelligence agent that there would be an illegal trafficking of woods into neigbouring Lao PDR. The riverine unit then asked for cooperation from local border police last weekend in order to check out and intercept the smuggling 88 logs of processed Burmese rosewood, with a total value of around 500,000 baht, near an anchorage in the Pha Tang locality in NongKhai's Sangkom District.
