Thai authorities visit Cambodia

BANGKOK, September 1 (TNA) - A delegation of new Thai Cabinet members and senior military officers is paying an official visit to Cambodia on September 1 at the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. The Thai delegation, led by Supreme Commander General Tanasak Patimapragorn, who is also a newly-appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, is scheduled to discuss bilateral cooperation on security, trade and investment with Cambodian authorities, aimed to further strengthen bilateral relations between Bangkok and Phnom Penh. Upon their arrival in Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital, on Monday morning, the Thai delegates were welcomed by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense General Tea Banh, who brought them to inspect Cambodian guards of honor, before both sides held a discussion on the issues. General Tanasak, who represents newly-appointed Thai Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha during the ongoing visit, is also scheduled to meet Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Cambodian Government House in Phnom Penh on Monday afternoon, together with the other Thai delegates. Monday's trip to Cambodia of the Thai authorities is part of bilateral exchange of visits, following a recent official visit to Thailand by General Tea Banh. Both sides also discussed solutions to Thai-Cambodian border problems and cooperation on labor regulations and exchanged of information to prepare for the forthcoming 10th Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee Meeting to be hosted by Cambodia. It is General Tanasak's first overseas trip after taking office in the new Thai Cabinet line-up officially announced on Sunday evening, with his entourage including Chief of Joint Staff General Sirichai Ditthakul, Navy Chief Admiral Narong Pipattanasai, who is also newly-appointed Education Minister, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Prajin Jantong, who is also newly-appointed Transport Minister, Deputy Army Chief General Udomdet Sitabutr, who is also newly-appointed Deputy Defence Minister and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
