Thai badminton champion named cultural ambassador

BANGKOK, June 15 (TNA) - Thailand's female badminton champion Ratchanok Intanon, nicknamed Nong Mei, has been appointed by the Ministry of Culture as the country's Cultural Ambassador to present the gentle Thainess internationally, like smiling, wai and saying hello, thank you and sorry. Culture Minister Veera Rojpojanarat presided over a ceremony to present a plaque of honour to the young top Thai badminton player in Bangkok on June 14 to signify her cultural ambassadorship. According to the minister, the 21-year-old world's forefront badminton player has always expressed the gentle Thainess in her every game, creating an impressive image to all. Nong Mei told reporters that she is happy to be chosen for the honourable position, noting that smiling, wai and saying hello, thank you and sorry have been instilled in her since she was young. The Thai badminton champion vowed to do her best to observe the honourable position by publicising the gentle Thainess internationally. Besides, she will try her best to win and bring home a medal from the upcoming Summer Olympics in Brazil, scheduled for August 5-21, 2016. On the occasion, the culture minister also presented six tradition Thai costumes for the Thai badminton champion to wear at her games. (TNA)
