BANGKOK, June 2 (TNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will lead Belgian chefs to experience authentic Thai food through travelling to three central provinces. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT governor said the activities, entitled “Thailand Food Tour with Flanders Kitchen Rebels” would be organized by the TAT and VISITFLANDERS in Belgium for exchange of food culture between the two countries. Belgian chefs will travel in the special trip to explore Thai food in Bangkok, Pathum Thani and Samut Songkram from June 2-4. These famous chefs are Nils Proost, Anthony Van Snoeck, Bran Heylens, Jonas Haegeman and Stijin Audenaert. They will experience Thai street food, Michelin-starred food and visit the Or Tor Kor market, offering premium fresh food and farm products and the Talaad Thai market, biggest central wholesale market for agricultural products and attend Thai cooking classes. They will join special trips to Baan Bang Plub and Klongklon communities in Samut Songkhram, the coastal province at the mouth of the Mae Klong River. Thai chefs from across the country will join them to create combination of Thai-Belgian dishes. Last year, 112,000 Belgian tourist visited Thailand, a 1.08 per cent increase from the previous year, creating an income of 7.6 billion baht. Twenty per cent of their spending is for food and beverage. The TAT hopes the activities will help promote Thai gastronomy tourism through story telling of the origins of Thai food ingredients among European tourists. (TNA)
