Thai business operators eye to invest in Papua New Guinea

PAPUA NEW GUINEA, March 25 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that Thai business operators are interested in investing in Papua New Guinea and her government is ready to transfer expertise to the Oceanian country. Yingluck, who is paying an official visit to Papua New Guinea from March 24-25 at the invitation of her Papua New Guinean counterpart Peter O’Niell, held talks with Papua New Guinea's Governor-General Michael Ogio at his office on Monday morning (local time), during which she expressed her appreciation that her ongoing trip kicked start the new era of bilateral relations between Thailand and Papua New Guinea at governmental, civilian and private-sector levels. Yingluck acknowledged that Thailand and Papua New Guinea are close in several dimensions and have had political, economic and social cooperation; so, Thai business operators are interested in expanding investment in Papua New Guinea. According to the Thai prime minister, her government is ready to transfer Thailand's experiences and expertise to Papua New Guinea. During her two-day visit to Papua New Guinea, a Thai Corner exhibition has also been organized to present information and books about Thailand at the University of Papua New Guinea to introduce Thailand and Southeast Asia to Papua New Guinean students. Accompanied by her entourage, including representatives of the Thai private sector, the Thai prime minister left Bangkok on March 21 to pay her official visits to New Zealand from March 21-24 and Papua New Guinea from March 24-25 and are scheduled to return home by Monday evening.(TNA)
