Thai Cabinet nods for financial support to UN, ASEAN neighbours

BANGKOK, January 14 (TNA) - The Cabinet has approved Thailand's financial support to the United Nations and some neighbouring countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Deputy Government Spokesman Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd told journalists of the Cabinet's decisions on Tuesday, after its weekly meeting at Bangkok's Government House. The deputy spokesman stated that the Cabinet approved Thailand‘s donation of 25,000 US dollars to the United Nations to support its assistance to human trafficking victims. The deputy spokesman said it is the second time that Thailand has made the donation to support the UN mission, reflecting the country’s determination to combat the human trafficking problem. According to the deputy spokesman, the Thai Cabinet has also approved a state budget of 30 billion baht to support the prevention and suppression of narcotics in Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, with 20 million baht to go to Myanmar, 5 million baht to go to Cambodia, 3 million baht to go to Vietnam and 1.5 million baht to go to Laos. The deputy spokesman pointed out although the money is not much, it shows Thailand’s determination to prevent smuggling of drugs into the country. (TNA)
