Thai Cabinet's new mobile meeting set in Chiang Mai in late June

BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) - The Cabinet will hold a new mobile meeting in Chiang Mai Province in the Thai North from June 27-28, 2015. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan told journalists of the plan on Thursday, saying although the northern Thai resort province is a political stronghold of former prime ministers Thaksin Shinawatra and his younger sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, he has no concerns over the Cabinet's mobile meeting on June 27-28. The deputy prime minister, who oversees national security affairs, stressed on the interim Thai government's people-oriented principle so that people's problems can be solved and he is not, thus, worried although the area is the political base of the two former prime ministers. The Thai deputy prime minister noted that the removal of Thaksin's police lieutenant colonel rank is under the authority of National Police Chief Police General Somyot Pumpunmuang and the issue should not be linked with the upcoming Cabinet meeting in Chiang Mai. Earlier this week, a Royal Thai Police panel resolved to strip Thaksin's police lieutenant colonel rank, following his recent speech against Thai privy councilors in South Korea, and the resolution has then been forwarded to the national police chief for further action.
